I usually do periodical entries, but Wicked was really the highlight of our New York trip, and I'm so excited to blog about it, I'm going to start with that.
Wicked was Day 6 of NYC. I woke bright and early. By 11am, we were out of the hotel, making our way to Gershwin (it was just a 7minute walk from our hotel). When we got there we realized the theater box office wasn't going to be open till 2pm, an hour before our show. So we decided to have an early lunch and then walk around Times Square.
If you don't already know, Wicked is about the untold life of the Elphaba (the wicked witch of Oz) and how the lion, the tin man and the straw man came about. The plot is brilliant. You'll never look at the Wizard of Oz the same after this.
the set
and here are some of my favorite parts of the musical. (these videos show the original cast of Idina and Kristina)
Wicked could very possibly be the best musical of all time. I was at the edge of my seat the entire show. Even Jason, who fell asleep during the Lion King, thought it was amazing.
The cast received a standing ovation from the room, unsurprisingly.
If you like the Wizard of Oz and musicals, this is one you cannot miss. Even if it means going hungry for a month, do it. It's worth it.
After the show, we had dinner at the Olive Garden, where we spent the entire time talking about the musical.
that was a good dinner.
