As if being a woman isn't hard enough already, now there's a new cause of concern - cervical cancer.
According to the National Cancer institute, cervical cancer is cancer that forms in tissues of the cervix. It is usually a slow-growing cancer that may not have symptoms but can be found with regular Pap tests (a procedure in which cells are scraped from the cervix and looked at under a microscope).
I got curious (cause, well, I AM a woman) so I did some research and found out that out of 338,147,870 women worldwide, half a million are infected with cervical cancer, and of that half, half of them die from it!
(I even made a pie-chart!)
That's 2% of women getting cervical cancer! It doesn't look like much but it sure is!
It's the 2nd most common cancer in women! (1st being breast cancer, of course! Seriously, the men get it easy!)
AND! In Singapore, cervical cancer takes the life of 1 women every 5 days!
If you're not already worried, you should be!
Cervical cancer symptoms :
- abnormal vaginal bleeding
- bleeding that occurs between regular menstrual periods
- bleeding after sexual intercourse, douching or a pelvic exam
- menstrual periods that last longer and are heavier than before
- bleeding after going through menopause
- increased vaginal discharge
- pelvic pain
- pain during sex
I'm a typical Singaporean lah, super kiasu/kiasi. Even though don't have symptoms, I want to get tested now. I'm damn scared to die, seriously. Stage 1A of cervical cancer has a 96-99% survival rate! I like those odds!
And if you're a boy and you're reading this and thinking, "thank God I don't have a cervix!", go use your brain ok! Your mother, girlfriend, sister, (girl)friends all have!
So male or female, go pledge your support for Power Over Cervical Cancer (POCC) and help pass the word on this deadly but preventable cancer! Who knows? You might be saving a life!

I pledged! :)
Well, don't just stop at pledging!
There's other ways of spreading the word as well!
like twitter!
and FB.
After getting myself worried, I quickly msged C and it got her worried as well, so we're going to get Papsmears together! That's true love right there, man! LOL.
If you're still being damn stubborn and haven't pledged already,
Power Over Cervical Cancer is a campaign that aims to make Singapore the country with the lowest incidence of Cervical Cancer and they need your help to spread the word.
Pledge your support for this cause and protect those you care about by telling them about Cervical Cancer. Together, we have POWER Over Cervical Cancer. Click the button below to begin!
